Years ago I completed - and qualified with ninety-eight percent, something I had never done before - a paranormal course. Upon completion it meant I was able to officially call myself a 'Paranormal Investigator'. To this day I have done absolutely nothing with it. The more sceptical I became, the more I realised it wasn't worth investing in any of the equipment they use because - to me - ghosts, spirits and anything else doesn't exist. No matter how much I wanted to believe.
My postie, a believer in it all, and I often chat about things; usually her trying to convince me the orb she's caught on her SLS camera, the green lines moving on some camera she has are the outlines of spirits in the room, and that the words appearing on her 'Alice box' - also known as a 'Spirit Box' - are genuinely someone trying to communicate (I will be writing a post about these gadgets - toys - at a later date). Anyway, a couple of weeks ago she delivered my mail then asked "how do you fancy coming on a ghost hunt?".
I wanted to reply "no, but thanks for the offer" purely because at my age I like my sleep a little too much and because creaky old places do creep me out. Not for the reasons most will be thinking; I still don't believe, but when places are dark you don't know who may be hiding in a corner. I'm talking real, live people. They terrify me more than anything 'unseen' could. Instead though I found myself saying "Sure, why not". That's how I've ended up handing over some money to her which guarantees my place at a 'haunted' location later in the year.
"Where is this place?" I hear you ask? Chester! Bloody Chester, several hundred miles from where I am located. Of all the haunted houses, hospitals, buildings and forests she could have chosen within a twenty minute drive, she chose one that involves the M5 and M6, roads nobody should ever actually choose to drive on. Apparently though, according to the people who own the property it is the "most haunted" hotel in England - although if you go onto their website it says "one of the most haunted".
Apparently it's become quite famous in recent years after it was part of an investigation by the Most Haunted team - we all know what I think about that television crap - and they have their own show on Amazon (I don't have prime so haven't seen it on there but there are some clips on youtube).
The hotel itself - Ye Olde Kings Head - has multiple cameras in each room and other areas that are monitored so anyone staying there for an investigation is given a walkie-talkie and if they experience anything they can radio through to those monitoring who can go back over the footage to see if the cameras have picked anything up. I love this idea, makes perfect sense to me, however, so far of all the footage I've watched I can honestly say there is nothing that has made me think it is real. The things which have moved can be easily set up to do so if you know what you're doing. The rooms themselves appear to have been dressed to heighten your senses. This all means if you go in with the belief of it being haunted you are already in a heightened state; to then have the additional props around you I feel you're pretty much guaranteed to hear, or experience something.
Maybe I will be proved wrong. Maybe the darkness, the fear of the living hiding behind a wall, and props dotted throughout will help me to change my opinion on it all. What I do know is that once it is over and done with, I will definitely be here to share it all with you.
Let me know if you've stayed here, or visited yourselves. I'd love to know if you encountered anything!
